Modeling Blue shift in Moonlit Scenes by Rod Cone Interaction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Moonlit night scenes have a tinge of blue. Earlier work to model this perceptual effect has been statistical in nature; often based on unreliable measurements of blueness in paintings of moonlit night scenes. Needless to say there is a need of a more reliable and accurate model. We present a model based on the physiological functioning of the retina and how the rod and cone cells in the retina interact in moonlight conditions to generate the perception of blue. All model components are derived from published quantitative measurements from physiology, psychophysics, color science, and photography. Maximum Entropy Spectral Modeling Approach to Mesopic Tone Mapping
Tone mapping algorithms should be informed by accurate color appearance models (CAM) in order that the perceptual fidelity of the rendering is maintained by the tone mapping transformations. Current tone mapping techniques, however, suffer from a lack of good color appearance models for mesopic conditions. There are only a few currently available appearance models suited to the mesopic range, n...
متن کاملThe Giant Mottled Eel, Anguilla marmorata, Uses Blue-Shifted Rod Photoreceptors during Upstream Migration
Catadromous fishes migrate between ocean and freshwater during particular phases of their life cycle. The dramatic environmental changes shape their physiological features, e.g. visual sensitivity, olfactory ability, and salinity tolerance. Anguilla marmorata, a catadromous eel, migrates upstream on dark nights, following the lunar cycle. Such behavior may be correlated with ontogenetic changes...
متن کاملRods induce transient tritanopia in blue cone monochromats
Transient tritanopia is a cone-cone post-receptoral interaction between short-wavelength (S) cones and medium (M) and long (L) wavelength cones. Blue cone monochromats have rods and S cones of normal sensitivity but lack functional M/L cones. All blue cone monochromats tested (n = 8) show significant amounts of transient tritanopia mediated by rods. Attempts to find a similar rod-S cone interac...

SUGITA, Y. and TASAKI, K. Rods Also Participate in Human Color Vision. Tohoku J. exp. Med., 1988, 154 (1), 57-62 In the retinal periphery, rod and cone thresholds to the same green light were measured. After the rod-cone break in the course of dark adaptation, cone sensitivity decreases gradually as rod sensitivity progressively increases. Cone sensitivity, however, increases when rod sensitivi...
متن کاملOpponent-color models and the influence of rod signals on the loci of unique hues
To investigate how rod signals influence hue perception and how this influence can be incorporated into opponent-color models, we measured the shift of unique-hue loci under dark-adapted conditions compared with cone-plateau conditions. Rod signals produced shifts of all spectral unique hues (blue, green, yellow) but in a pattern that was inconsistent with simple additive combinations of rod an...
